National Health Action Party Press Release 18th October 2016
This morning the NHA opened preliminary talks with a high profile law firm to explore taking the Deer Park Surgery closure to judicial review.
Dr Helen Salisbury, the NHA's candidate in the Witney by-election, said "I have listened to the main party candidates on the hustings and on the BBC's Sunday Politics. I hear a lot of concern expressed, but no concrete action proposed. I know how real the local residents' concerns are from the last public meeting and from speaking to people whilst out campaigning.
I applaud local residents, patients and councillors who have held public meetings and launched a petition but sadly this alone will not save our services. GP services are closing everywhere. It is part of the wider plans for the NHS across the country.
NHS England and the government seem to think the family practice conveniently near where you live is a thing of the past. My GP colleagues and most of our patients disagree.
It is unacceptable that a practice should close when the community around it is growing. That's the response of this government, though. If there is a greater need for a service they remove it.
I want to try my best to do something positive, something that has a good chance of saving the Deer Park Centre. That is why I have consulted a lawyer.
I would be very pleased to hear from any patients who are willing to join me to do our best to make saving the surgery a reality."
