"During the past few years while fighting to save essential services at Stafford Hospital I have become increasingly angry at the way our community, peoples’ concerns, expressed demands and choice for hospital services has been totally ignored by various national and local government authorities and administrators. Up to 50,000 people marched to keep vital services at Stafford Hospital for the community; 20,000 marched a few months later to retain Paediatric and Maternity Services. No-one listened. Equally there has been a total disregard for people’s safety and quality of service provision with the transfer of services from Stafford Hospital to another hospital provider at a distance. Stafford Hospital is now rated as one of the best hospitals in the country yet has suffered a financially driven closure of its A&E, maternity, children's wards, and acute medical and surgical wards.
It is also vital to fight against creeping privatisation such as the joint £1.2 billion cancer services and end of life care contract by CCG’s in the West Midlands; it will fragment services, create confusing pathways and further undermine locally established NHS services."
